CAIRO, Sep 27 (Aswat Masriya) – Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri assured his Mexican counterpart Claudia Ruiz Massieu on Sunday that the investigation into the “accidental" killing of Mexican tourists earlier this month is still ongoing.
Shukri met Massieu on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the Egyptian embassy in Mexico will be in contact with the Mexican foreign ministry and families of the victims.
Egyptian security forces said that they mistakenly attacked a convoy of Mexican tourists in al-Wahat area in the Western desert, believing they were terrorists. Twelve were killed including eight Mexicans and four Egyptians and 10 were injured, six of them Mexicans.
Mexico demanded an investigation into the case and that victims and their families receive compensation.
