CAIRO, Oct 1 (Aswat Masriya) – United Nations envoy to Libya Bernardino Leon expressed his intentions to invite Libya's warring factions to a meeting at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York for unity talks on Friday.

Leon’s comments came in a meeting on Wednesday with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri.

Shukri stressed that the formation of a national unity government is the first step to combat terrorism and restore stability.

He said that the overall consultations with foreign ministers and top officials revealed serious intentions to support a national unity government in Libya.

Egypt supported the political agreement signed by Libyan parties in the city of Skhirat in Morocco last July which aimed to form a national unity government including all political factions who believe in a political solution.

United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) handed Libyan parties a final draft of the political agreement to end the ongoing conflict on Libyan territories.
