CAIRO, March 25 (Aswat Masriya) Egypt's Deputy Mufti Ibrahim Negm stressed on Tuesday that media comments on recent death sentences lack truth.

Negm added on Dar al-Ifta's official account that the media should only take into account official statements made by its spokesman.

He urged media outlets to be responsible in their reporting and abide by accuracy and objectivity in covering the events.

Minya's criminal court deferred the files of 528 defendants to the Mufti to rule in their death sentence on Monday, sparking outrage in Egypt.

The defendants, who the court said belong to the Muslim Brotherhood, were accused of committing several crimes following the ouster of President Mohamed Mursi last year.

The Brotherhood was declared a terrorist group in December.
