CAIRO, Oct 2 (Aswat Masriya) – Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri participated in a high-level ministerial meeting on Libya at the United Nations headquarters on Friday.
Representatives from Libyan parties were invited to a national dialogue in the presence of representatives of international organizations.
The UN Secretary General called for this meeting with the aim of sending a message to Libyan parties on the importance of signing the final political agreement initiated on July 11 in the Moroccan city of Skhirat and forming a national unity government, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Shukri said in a statement that “it is no longer acceptable to further delay signing the political agreement and forming a national unity government”.
He added that those who want to disrupt or impede the movement of the Libyan people towards stability should bear the responsibility.
He further stressed Egypt’s support for Libyan’s Council of Deputies as the only legitimate entity in Libya.
In September, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) handed the warring Libyan parties a final draft of the political agreement to end the ongoing conflict on Libyan territories.
