CAIRO, Mar 19 (Aswat Masriya) - A bus overturned in Saudi Arabia leaving 19 Egyptians dead, out of 44 who were on the bus, Egypt's assistant foreign minister said.  

The passengers were performing Umrah, a type of pilgrimage that can be carried out by Muslims at any time of the year and were on a road connecting Mecca to AlMadinah AlMunawwarah when the accident took place. 

Assistant Foreign Minister for consulate affairs and Egyptians abroad Hesham al-Naqib told state news agency MENA that eight of the deceased people were not identified and that their fingerprints are being recovered, while 11 were taken to two hospitals.

Naqib added that 25 injured in the accident were hospitalised, with the help of the Saudi Red Crescent.

In September, hundreds of people were killed in Saudi Arabia as they preformed Hajj, an annual pilgrimage. While Saudi authorities say 769 were killed in the incident, the tallies of the death tolls provided by different governments show that over 2,000 people were killed, according to international news services like AP and AFP. The deaths include at least 170 Egyptians, according to figures provided by Egypt's foreign ministry.
