CAIRO, Mar 22 (Aswat Masriya) The Egyptian foreign ministry condemned on Tuesday the attacks that hit Brussels, causing tens of deaths and injuries.

The ministry sent the condolences of Egypt, "the government and the people," to the Belgian government and the families of the victims.

At least 11 people were killed after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Brussels airport, according to Reuters. Another blast took place in a Brussels metro train, killing 10 more people.

Ahmed Abu Zaid, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson, stressed in the statement "Egypt's position" on the "terrorism phenomenon," and the importance of international solidarity in the face of terrorism.

"It is time for the world to take a tough stance towards dealing with international terrorism that targets the security and stability of people," Abu Zaid said. He called for taking "fast measures" to fight terrorism, even on the levels of thought and funding.

Separately, Egypt's national airline EgyptAir announced its cancellation of all trips to Brussels.

All public transportation in Brussels has been shut down, Reuters reported.
