CAIRO, Apr 2 (Aswat Masriya) – A U.S. Congress delegation arrived in Cairo on Saturday for a two day visit to meet with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Defense Minister Sedky Sobhi, said a statement by the U.S. embassy.

The delegation is led by Senator Lindsey Graham and will discuss “shared interests related to security, stability, and the fight against terrorism” in meetings with the Egyptian president and defense minister, read the statement.  

According to the embassy’s statement, the delegation will be also “visiting projects, implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which are designed to protect Egypt’s cultural heritage and support its economic development.”

Egypt's relations with the U.S. were strained when the U.S. temporarily suspended its military aid to the Middle Eastern country following the army's ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, after protests against his rule.

The U.S. resumed the aid in March 2015.

The United States delivered to Egypt eight F-16 Block II Fighting Falcons in July and four more in October with the aim of "confronting terrorism in the region," the U.S. embassy said in a statement in November 2015..
