CAIRO, Aug 7 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt’s House of Representatives said on Sunday that the Irish parliament’s demand to release an Irishman, imprisoned in a case dubbed as Al Fateh Mosque clashes, is unacceptable interference in Egyptian judiciary.

The Egyptian ambassador to Ireland was called to appear before the Irish parliament in July over the imprisonment of Ibrahim Halawa after an Egyptian criminal court renewed his detention.

Security forces arrested Halawa when he was 17 during protests held in support of the Muslim Brotherhood group at Al Fateh mosque in Cairo’s Ramses neighbourhood in August 2013.

Halawa is being tried along with 492 other defendants on the case after prosecution accused them of premeditated murder, attempted murder, illegal assembly and vandalism, among other charges.

Egypt’s House said that Halawa committed hostile acts against the law and customs with the aim of desecrating the mosque, reported state-run MENA news agency.
