CAIRO, Aug 13 (Aswat Masriya) - Egyptian authorities released on Saturday political activists Mahinour al-Masry and Youssef Shaaban, after serving their prison terms over charges of storming a police station and violating the protest law.
In 2015, an Alexandria appeals court sentenced Masry and Shaaban to one year and three month for storming a police station in Alexandria during the rule of former president Mohamed Mursi.
The verdict was criticised back then by human rights groups and figures.
Since the protest law, that imposes restrictions on protests, was introduced in November 2013, many Egyptians, mostly youth, have been detained and convicted of violating the law and protesting without obtaining prior approval from the interior ministry.
