CAIRO, Jan 19 (Aswat Masriya) -  The Supreme State Security Prosecution held on Thursday the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance movement Hamas accountable for establishing and training the recently-emerged movement calling itself “Hasam”.

The prosecution said that Hasam Movement was established to implement “hostile operations against the armed forces,  the police, the judiciary, the media and some businessmen to prevent state institutions from carrying out its duties to overturn the regime and establish what they call the Islamic Caliphate”.

The prosecution had referred 304 members of the movement to military prosecution for their involvement in “14 terrorist attacks”, state-run MENA reported on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the prosecution said that some of them were trained by the military wing of Hamas, Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, in camps in Sudan.

In recent months, the recently emerged movement has stepped up attacks targeting security personnel and high profile figures.

It claimed responsibility for an explosion in Giza in December that killed security personnel. Hasam also claimed responsibility for the death of a policeman in Beheira governorate, north-west of Cairo in October.

The movement also claimed responsibility for the failed assassination attempts on Egypt’s former Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa and assistant prosecutor general Zakaria Abdelaziz in August and September respectively.

Egypt declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group in December 2013 and insists it is behind the wave of militancy which has targeted security personnel since July 2013. The Brotherhood continuously denies the accusations.

Egyptian authorities have also accused Hamas, a strong ally of former president Mohamed Mursi of the brotherhood, of supporting these militant attacks but Hamas has repeatedly denied the accusations.
