Egypt's forensic authority revealed new evidence that could implicate two policemen, recently released on bail, accused of raping a woman in the back seat of a patrol car.

Seminal fluids on the victim's clothes match those of the two policemen in question, spokesman of Egypt's forensic authority Hisham Abdel Hameed told Ahram Online, adding that the victim is "still a virgin."

On 21 December, a lower-ranking policeman and a police conscript were arrested for raping a woman in Cairo's Shubra district.

They were granted release Saturday on LE1,000 ($140) bail each by the Cairo criminal court. According to Egyptian law, "attempted rape" is considered sexual assault, a charge different from rape.

The forensic authority sent its report to the prosecution which should take it into consideration in continued legal processes.

This incident was one of several recent alleged sexual assaults that involve police.

Sexual violence is a significant problem in Egypt, particularly sexual harassment on the streets and mob assaults during large demonstrations.
