CAIRO, Jul 16 (Aswat Masriya) - An improvised explosive device went off in the upscale neighbourhood of Heliopolis in Cairo on Thursday, injuring one policeman, reported the state news agency MENA.
The policeman's injuries ranged from cuts to abrasions, reported MENA. He was transferred to hospital for treatment.
Security forces combed the area around the explosion, in Heliopolis' Roxy Square, in search of other explosive devices. None were found, MENA reported.
Bombings and shootings targeting security personnel surged since the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.
A remotely-detonated bomb targeted the motorcade of Egypt's top prosecutor on his way to work in June, killing him. Late Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat's assassination makes him the most senior state official killed since Mursi's removal from power.
