Minor clashes erupted between supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood and their opponents outside al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque in Alexandria on Friday, an Aswat Masriya eyewitness reported.

Both sides pelted stones at each other as the Brotherhood supporters chanted against the "military rule" and for an Islamist state, whereas their opponents chanted against "terrorism".

The Islamist group has announced its plan to stage protests in Alexandria under the slogan "The people lead their revolution," to denounce the crackdown on their protest camps in Cairo and what they described as a "military coup".

The protesters started marching from three different mosques following Friday prayers to gather at Stanely district by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the army and police forces secured the area surrounding the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in case clashes extend there.
