Egyptians are preparing on Friday for demonstrations on the “Friday of Accountability” in Cairo’s Tahrir Square to demand retrying the murderers of the 2011 uprising martyrs and realizing other demands of the revolution including cleansing the judiciary, security and media.
Several political powers, including the Muslim Brotherhood and some revolutionary coalitions, called for these protests.
These protests come two days after the acquittal of 24 defendants from accusations of inciting murder in the infamous “Battle of the Camel” incident which took place on February 2, 2011.
The defendants included prominent officials under former president Hosni Mubarak.
Liberal and leftist political powers announced a week ago they will organize the Friday protest to call for a constitution that represents all Egyptians and “demand justice for the revolution’s martyrs.”
The Ministry of Interior will secure public and vital facilities in Tahrir Square and will organize traffic during today’s protests, a security source at the ministry has said.
