Egyptian Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi headed to the police academy on Tuesday to testify in the case of the destruction of state-security documents, reported Al-Jazeera.

Egyptian activists had stormed the headquarters of the feared State Security apparatus a few weeks following the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak, destroying and leaking official documents.

Former State Security chief Hassan Abdel Rahman, who was in charge when the events broke out, is currently standing trial with 40 of his aides.

According to state newspaper, Al-Ahram, the public and press were not allowed into today's hearing.

The court had summoned Sisi to hear his testimony upon the request of plaintiffs but he asked for a delay twice due to the country’s security status until finally attending today.

Heavy security awaited the defense minister since the early hours of Tuesday.
