Egypt's official military spokesman Ahmed Aly denied that the army intends to curb the size of its armed forces or that there are foreign military bases in the country.

He described the suggestions as far from logical and added that there are strategic calculations but no presidential decree on the subject.

The military spokesman insisted that there are no American forces on Egyptian grounds, reported the Middle East News Agency.

He added that this is a fixed policy in Egypt's national security to preserve the country's sovereignty.

He pointed out that in any country the parliament has to agree to having foreign military bases which has not happened in Egypt's case.

He asked those who made the accusations to come forward with their evidence so that there claims would be investigated.
